Aside my blatant lack of an ungodly love for knitting, of course.
Or perhaps it's that she simply writes in such a way that anyone can relate to, because her stories tend to thoroughly exploit the embarrassing human tendancies we all possess.
Free- Range Knitter is quite readable, as her material generally has the habbit of being. It's the sort of book that you can't put down until it's finished, and a highly entertaining read, in my opinion.

I thoroughly enjoyed being able to witness she and her monologue, which I'd label as more of a 'performance' than anything, was at times, comparable to that of a stand-up comedian. Better, since you don't have to feign laughter at timely intervals.

Ironically, I have the greatest urge to knit. It could just be the vast amount of reading about knitting talking, but I may actually be inspired enough to pick up the needles, and plod my way back into the knitting world. One of these days.

Overall, the moral of my blog is that my personal experience has earned me some amount of respect for the woman that is Stephanie McPhee, and for all that she has accomplished. I know I don't have to go so far as to suggest that you all to go pick up a book, or read her blog, because a great most of the knit bloggers are already familiar with her stylings.

N'er Mind

I managed to adjust the content so that now my blog possesses a musical aspect, so I may not do away with it all together.
That Project Playlist music player is the end result of hours of searching, editing, and revising the muscial content, and Myspace saw fit to do away with supporting it all together. Needless to say, it disappointed me greatly, and Myspacing holds little joy for me now.

In other news, of greater importance, author Tad Williams has turned out the first eight chapters of his fantasy novel, Dragons of Ordinary Farm. Available to read in pdf format for all. How cool? While it's not quite my cup o' tea since I'm a little over the hill for this particular sort of story, I love his work, and it shouldn't go unappreciated.

This particular work, is actually the colaborated efforts of he and his wife and partner, Deborah Beale. Judging from the blog they keep, which reads like a novel, she has a sharp mind, and just as talented as he. Were I half the author I aspire to be, I would kill for a man type figure that shared my interest. They certainly make quite the pair.

That being said, everyone who happens to have been born with a functioning mind and endowments of the ocular sort really ought to visit his site.

Spur-of-the-Moment Poetry

I am nothing
If there were any beauty in such a thing, I would have you find it
I am the sun
Still, I wish you to fill the emptiness encompassing me.
Would we only lust for things possessed; we would be complete
There would be no beauty in hope
Only in that which is
In that land, I would dwell
Suffering true contentment
Pitied by all creation, until all who live mourn my very existance
Yet, their collective sorrow stays my hand, for I now know beauty

The Irony Is Overwhelming.

Okay, so I don't do much plugging, but here's a plug.
Subscribe to Delancy Place, or at the very least check out the site.
You get a handy excerpt, which is chosen from a variety of genres, e-mailed to you ever day. They generally look something like this:

In today's excerpt--organic, as it is used on food labels, while it still means chemical-pesticide-free, doesn't mean quite what it used to. And then there's the so-called free range chicken:

"Shopping at Whole Foods is a literary experience. That's not to take anything away from the food, which is generally of high quality, much of it 'certified organic' or 'humanely raised' or 'free range.' But right there, that's the point: It's the evocative prose as much as anything else that makes this food really special. ...

"With the growth of organics and mounting concerns about the wholesomeness of industrial food, ... it is Whole Foods that consistently offers the most cutting-edge grocery 'lit.' On a recent visit I filled my shopping cart with eggs 'from cage-free vegetarian hens,' milk from cows that live 'free from unnecessary fear and distress,' wild salmon caught by Native Americans in Yakutat, Alaska (population 833), and heirloom tomatoes from Capay Farm (S4.99 a pound), 'one of the early pioneers of the organic movement.' The organic broiler I picked up even had a name: Rosie, who turned out to be a 'sustainably farmed' 'free-range chicken' from Petaluma Poultry. ...

"The organic movement, as it was once called, has come a remarkably long way in the last thirty years, to the point where it now looks considerably less like a movement than a big business. Lining the walls above the sumptuously stocked produce section in my Whole Foods are full-color photographs of local organic farmers accompanied by text blocks setting forth their farming philosophies. A handful of these farms still sell their produce to Whole Foods, but most are long gone from the produce bins, if not yet the walls. That's because Whole Foods in recent years has adopted the grocery industry's standard regional distribution system, which makes supporting small farms impractical. Tremendous warehouses buy produce for dozens of stores at a time, which forces them to deal exclusively with [huge] farms. ...

"The question is, ... just how well does [today's organic] hold up under close reading and journalistic scrutiny? [Not that well]. At least that's what I discovered when I traced a few of the items in my Whole Foods cart back to the farms where they were grown. I learned, for example, that some (certainly not all) organic milk comes from factory farms, where thousands of Holsteins that never encounter a blade of grass spend their days confined to a fenced 'dry lot,' eating (certified organic) grain and tethered to milking machines three times a day. ...

"I also visited Rosie the organic chicken at her farm in Petaluma, which turns out to be more animal factory than farm. She lives in a shed with twenty thousand other Rosies, who, aside from their certified organic feed, live lives little different from that of any other industrial chicken. Ah, but what about the 'free-range' lifestyle promised on the label? True, there's a little door in the shed leading out to a narrow grassy yard. But the free-range story seems a bit of a stretch when you discover that the door remains firmly shut until the birds are at least five or six weeks old--for fear they'll catch something outside--and the chickens are slaughtered only two weeks later."

<span style="border-bottom: 1px dashed rgb(0, 102, 204); cursor: pointer;" class="yshortcuts" Despite that, I like the outcome.

I Hate Blogs

Why do I insist on keeping them?
I talk myself into creating a few, post once, and forget my multiple passwords, multiple times.

I suppose I think that I'll look back and reread all of them one days, and instantly recall whatever it was I was doing whenever, but I never actually bring myself to do that.

All in all, I'm far to boring to maintain a public blog, and this one may or may not be around in the near future.

A Sonnet

The Quest Of The Cynic

This book is classic; one that every single person should read at least once.
It was influened by the popular William Blake poem, and was first entitled, Tiger! Tiger!.

Next by Michael Crichton

The topic of Next, is along the lines of genes, and the process of extracting certain genes in order to create cures for disease.

I like the works of Michael Crichton(Author of Jurrasic Park), from my experience, he writes well written and well researched stories. Next is not his best work; the plot is exaggerated and overall it seems to be written not as a biothriller, but as a complaint against modern science itself.
Still, it's worth reading.

Prey by Michael Crichton

Prey discusses Nanotechnology and the story line is based upon how modern day computer programs are built in mimic of animal behavior. Great story, very interesting.

Atonement by Ian McEwan

No doubt many of you saw the previews for the movie Atonement. I thought that it looked like a good story, so I went out and purchased the book instead of running to the theater.
This book had every opportunity to be great. The overall plot's not bad, but certain aspects of the story tear it apart. As I was reading, I had the distinct feeling that the entire story was rushed, and many parts were left lacking detail. This proved very frustrating; perhaps that was the feeling he expected people to be left with.
After finishing Atonement, I had hopes that perhaps the movie would turn out decent, but sadly, that was not the case. Thus, the book was better than the movie; but not terribly great.

Existenstial Proof, Knitter's: "Behold!"

So, the long awaited post with the picture, as I promised has now been, in a sense, "unveiled"!

The History Of It All
Truth be told, my relationship with sock knitting has been a rocky one. In the beginning, I began the first of all socks that was to have been created by my own two hands; the yarn was blue, I remember.

My DPNs in hand, I knit with fuery and, after a time, I rendered a sock; not a bad one either.

Now came the time to begin the second, of what would be two entire socks, rendering a complete pair. For some reason, it struck me, and for the longest time I didn't have the sheer power of mind to begin another. So, there I was, left with one whole sock.
The years have passed, various projects, many scarves, and the pairs of incompleted baby socks have come and gone; and the one blue sock has journeyed off somewhere, perhaps in search of a purpose.

But today is a new day! A day in which I Heidi have actually finish, not one, but two completely knit socks!

The socks themselves, were knit by double pointed needle, four to be exact, sized: (1), and
one miniture crochet hook for picking up stitches.

The pattern itself, just your run-of-the-mill socky-sock pattern. It called for size two, but upon trial, I noticed the extremely loose stitches, and tightened the gauge accordingly.

The yarn was black as you can see, and self striping.

I also have some really amazingly cool sock yarn that I have in store for the next pair, and I desperately need to hunt down a pattern for.

Any suggestions as to patterns would be welcomed!

I Heart Chub Creek

Don't you? You have amazing ideas, and the power to carry them out.

Success comes rather easily for you... especially in business and academia.

Some people find you to be selfish and a bit overbearing. You're a strong person.

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.

You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.

At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.

You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.

You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are balanced, orderly, and organized. You like your ducks in a row.

You are powerful and competent, especially in the workplace.

People can see you as stubborn and headstrong. I've taken to knitting quite rampantly these days, and I've great hope that that fact will be the motivation I need to actually finish a complete pair of socks. One day, when I get the chance to start, I vow to finish not one, but two socks!
I also finished a gray stockinette scarf, which rolled, but I'm liking how it looks, despite.
Desperate as I was to just knit, the yarn quality suffered, and I'm afraid that it's pure acrylic. Cringe. I know....
I figure that since I'm supposed to be making this scarf for a friend of my mother, and she didn't specify what exactly she wanted in a scarf, I may just use it as a model of what could be if made with better yarn.
That's all the new news I've got!

"A man walks down the street in that hat, people know he's not afraid of anything."

(Little sis sporting it for me)

Or woman!
So, while talking with a friend of mine, who happens to be a major Flan (Firefly Fan), I was commissioned, or begged, to knit him a 'Jayne' hat. This is actually a picture of the second one I completed, and I followed a different pattern than the first. The reason being I'm a wee bit of a perfectionist, and the first pattern yielded a hat big enough for a giant. I may be a loose knitter, but I don't think that's entirely to blame. I was left with enough extra yarn, time, etc to do another, and here it is! I plan to let him choose between the two, which ever he likes best.
Hopefully, one of them will suit him.

A bit of knit Involved!

Look what I knit ^_^

Yes, it doesn't exactly look like it would take much to knit this, I know.
But it signifies more to me, because this is the first real thing I've knitted in ages. (ages: appx. A year or more.)
The yarn is Navajo wool, and I still have two more skienes left to make me feel guilty that I have yet to knit them into something grand. Grey, Dark Blue, and the Light Blue seen above.
I love the colors, but I'm at a loss of what to make?
I've also started knitting a cap, and a pair of hand warmers for little sis; which I really need to finish!
It's funny how much I missed knitting all this time, I'm so glad that I'm back in the swing of things. I think now that it's winter again, I've really felt the urge to knit.
Anyway, here's a couple hat patterns I thought were cool!

Seeman's Cap

Nifty-knit Hat

Ribbed Hat

Cabled Cap

Shedir Cap

Coheed and Cambria, Concert Review and More

Concert Line up (11/14/07): Me Without You, Thrice, Brand New.

Me Without You- My impression of this band was all-over good. They actually have talent, and this takes their music to another level. Bands like this have an impressive quality of dedication that you don't see in

many bands with record labels.

The music itself, is what I would possibly categorize as majorly Indie Rock, with a little punk-ish alternative thrown in. Overall, they put on a good show.

Thrice- An ever-popular, and an older band that has had a number of hits in the past. Their performance was amazing, both lead singer and the guitarist were GREAT. The light show was awesome, and I would definitely suggest seeing them live.

Brand New-Brand New, if you don't already know the history behind them, are one of two bands that broke away from the popular band, Taking Back Sunday. (Which I love) Their music has a largely alternative sound, with a nice amount of harmony, and meaningful lyrics. They may border on religious themes in many of their songs, but I would not strictly categorize them as such. They actually sound better live, and the whole band seems to really have a love for music.

Concert line up (11/15/07): Fall of Troy, Clutch, Coheed and Cambria.

Fall of Troy- They were, in my opinion, newbie’s, and pretty much just like any other dime-a- dozen-skinny-dude-mediocre rock band. The only thing impressive about their performance was the excessive amount of phlegm produced by the lead singer.

Clutch- Although the music is not my cup of tea, I won't say they didn't have any talent. They did have some stage presence. I got the distinct feeling that the lead singer was a white supremacist, and that was something that negatively influenced my opinion of their music.

Coheed and Cambria- If you don't already know, I am a HUGE fan. All the guitarists are amazing, and the lead singer both plays and has a stunning voice! Their whole performance was great, from the lighting to the music, obviously. Lead singer, Claudio Sanchez is quite impressive live.
It made suffering through the previous bands well worth it.

Blog of all Blogs

Hello to all. Or any that may happen upon my bit of insignificance, that is my would-be BLOG.
Obviously, the word blog is too harsh a word to describe my lacking page.
The truth is, I used to be a thriving blogger, with a blog to boast of my html skills. Times changed, and I left it all behind...(knitting included, until recently)
I feel it's time to take back my blogger, and blog with a vengance and passion no blogger has ever seen.
All sarcasm aside, myspace wasn't fulfilling my needs....and I need a place to rant.
In other news, I've just finished the fourth book in the Dune chronicles, Dune God Emperor. I'll be moving on to Heritics (#5) one of these days, whenever I can manage to aquire it.
My opinion? I loved the first book with all it's complexities.
When you begin the series you basically have to jump in, and not look back in order to grasp the concept. That's one of the major flaws in writting such an advanced Sci-Fi; making everyone else see the entire picture the way you see it. And not drownding them in endless sayings, quotes, ideas, and concepts.
On the other hand, it does strengthen those who make it through. So, why not make it as complicated as you like? I'm sort of going no where with this, so I'll end this pathetic attempt at being wit-ical and say, " just read Dune!"
